I Phones at low prices

Post 1 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 11-May-2012 20:33:56

I was here tonight and I thought I had seen an I 4 S for a low price. Here is that link.
I was told it wasn't so.
Apple iPhone 4S …

$298.00
It is refurbished, but Apple gives the same support.
I also see the 4 for 149.00 that is on www.cnet.com
Just had to prove that ideas and some searching will make things happen. Smile. I am hoping the guy that claimed I was crazy reads this post.

That's so neat! I'm on virizon and I called them the other day for an Iphone 4S it was 213 dollars including tax.

Post 3 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 12-May-2012 20:01:57

Verizon, yes, but with a contract. 199 and the gov, plus 2 years. These aren't attached, or weren't when I looked.
If you don't have to have Siri and the better Camera the 4 is the same after you update it to the latest OS, so.

Post 4 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 13-May-2012 13:48:36

This came directly from A T and T's page today.

Apple iPhone 4S (Refurb)
REFURB
»16GB»64GB
$149.99-$349.99
2-yr voice agreement with qualifying monthly data plan required.
Also correction on the post for the 149, that one is also A T and T, so connected to a contract.
The 3 G is even less.

Post 5 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Monday, 14-May-2012 11:52:04

Yup, connected to a contract, and those are reasonable prices when connected to a contract.
However, in a few months, the iPhone 5 will be out, which will mean there will be 4S's and 4's available for less on the common market.
Something the young and unencumbered / those who don't pay for everybody else don't understand yet: breaking out of a contract that involves several participants is actually quite an expensive ordeal.
If you are breaking out from T-Mobile, and the iPhone has anything to do with it, make sure and tell T-Mobile so. You're not being an asshole, you're just letting them know.
I did, in no uncertain terms. I didn't leave, because I am only the payer / provider here, so everyone else's phone needs came first, not least of which is the teenage daughter's data plan. But anyway, when I did tell them, they said this is a major reason why people are leaving their service.
On the other hand, if you can buy an AT&T device, T-Mobile will change the phone settings for you and set it up to work with their network, as well as change the SIM card to fit the iPhone.
Just a few weekends' worth of research from a guy who actualy pays for a whole group's cell phone access.

Post 6 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 15-May-2012 0:53:36

I understand that getting out of contracts is expensive, so I listed some without as well, and ways to find phones that aren't attached.
Also if you keep some of the people on the contract you have some wiggle room to get one or 2 phones off.
Last, T Mobile as pointed out will help you get your phone working. There are lots of phones on the market now, because some people choose to switch to Android powered phones over Apple's, or they just don't like the I.

Post 7 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 17-May-2012 10:43:43

We saw something last night on the Apple Store website for some AT&T phones so I may get one of theirs in late June Early July. With my Department of Homeland Security Discount - if they still offer that - I can probably get something decent. It cn be tough when there's mouths to feed, and when extra money comes in I hate takin' it all for myself, but this will most definitely be worth it.
Then I'll have just the one device I can have all the Coast Guard stuff on and be my phone at the same time.
If you're low vision, or you are like me and have a spouse who can benefit from a larger screen - lots of sighted people 40s and up are in that category - the iPhone 5 is going to be beneficial that way.
Looking at the 4S myself for the camera's better megapixel range and hoping for good performance with the OCR.

Post 8 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 17-May-2012 22:32:36

The 5's screen is said to be simular to the new i Pad 3, so maybe go take a look at that and decide if you want to wait. I do wonder if the 5 will be a small upgrade like the 4S was to the 4 and so on?

Sprint today is shouting its unlimited iPhone 4S data plan from the rooftops, hoping to attract Verizon customers who are hopping mad at losing their unlimited data.

Starting today, you can trade in your current non-Sprint iPhone for the carrier's own model, and get at least $100 off when you sign a new two-year contract.

Of course, the limited-time offer also gets you Sprint's promise of capless data access for the device, and that's what Sprint hopes will be the real draw for fed-up Verizon subscribers.
I reprinted this. I have a friend that has this plan, and it is a bit confusing.
Sprint says 99, but they have some other charges that you can't get out of paying, so the total will cost 139 per month. The $100 is good however, so if you're upgrading or going to change plans this is a good deal.

This was posted a day or so ago.

Post 10 by crazy_cat (Just a crazy cat) on Tuesday, 22-May-2012 22:39:53

Sounds like a good deal. The only problem with Sprint is that the coverage is not as good as Verizon. I would love to switch to one of the lower cost carriers, but i still want a phone that will work when i go to visit my parents.

Post 11 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 23-May-2012 19:49:50

Ask Sprint. They've improved coverage I understand. That was an issue as you pointed out, but Imaybe not now.
I also have Verizon for the same reason coverage.

I learned today that Cricket Communication will soon be offering the I Phone 4 and 4S.
If you don’t know about Cricket, or cellular companies that are similar in the US, such as US Cellular, these companies offer service with no contract and low pricing.
Cricket will offer the unlimited plan for the I Phone for $55 and a small service fee, so about 58 60 per month, but phones will be expensive at 399 for the 8GB 4 and 499 for the 16GB 4S if purchased new.
My idea is to purchase a pre-owned, refurbished 4 or 4S and take it to them where they will set it up to work on their network. They have historically done this for many new Smart phones from other companies, so I can’t see why not the I Phone.
My opinion is that service with an I Phone will be better simply due to it being able to connect to WI FI or your home network, so if you don’t have coverage, or you don’t like the service you have options.
If you compare this plan to Sprint’s unlimited plan you see where this will be a bargain.
They’ve already offering some of the top Android phones now, so service should be good or better.
My opinion is this might force other companies to offer lower pricing or better service for the 3 G lineup.
Savings are on the way for us that have 4 or 4S and don’t care about upgrading and are ending our contracts. Take your phone to Cricket and get saved.

If you have a 4S with AT&T and you are planning to upgrade to the iPhone 5, here's a piece of advice.
Upgrade to the 5 if that's what you want, then call AT&T for help unlocking your 4S. That's also true if you still have a 4 laying around.
If your contract is in good standing, they will unlock it for you, and its resale value as an older phone will be higher because it is unlocked.
I bought an iPhone 4S off Craigslist and recently got it unlocked via AT&T so I can use it on T-Mobile. Yes, yes, I know hipsters, T-Mobile doesn't do 3G for iPhone bands yet, that is coming. And for a teenager, I'm sure it will feel like an eternity before it gets here. Take courage: You'll have had threee loves and 2 breakups in the year they're predicting it will take, so you got lots to do between now and then <smile>

It is extremely productive, even though right now all I have is Edge on T-Mobile. For Android to grab my attention it will have to be as straightforward, productive, and secure as iOS. For those in the so-called debate, it's all theory and semantics. For us out there trying to get things done, it's all in how quickly and efficiently and consistently things behave.
Today's Android is equivalent to yesterday's Windows Mobile: Install it on pretty much anything, but as inconsistent as Windows and as hard to set up and lots of run-around.
Today's iOS is like yesterday's Blackberry: constrained to a few pieces of hardware, very consistent, fewer apps and fewer free apps, but people who are really bent on productivity really love it.
If you're a comp sci major, get your ass on Android because once you root that, you 'll be ready to start working with Raspberry Pie and Robotic Operating System, both of which are open source.
And, all the manufacturers of devices can optionally include or exclude interfaces at will. That's part of being open. And said exclusion can definitely involve excluding the accessibility components. Anymore, I cannot afford that except with a benched device whose autoshop equivalent would be the car up on blocks being tinkered with. If you do like Android, don't forget either Chrome OS, or the new incoming Firefox OS: lots of options and they're all wide open to play and tinker with.
But for family, the Coast Guard and for work, I gotta have a device that's really consistent, no fooling around with ideas and ideals, since I depend on it, and people depend on me.

The new Samsong Galaxy S3 comes already with the speech on it like the iPhone. A friend lost her iPhone over the weekend when we were out, so today she got the S3.
We'll see how it stacks up.
There, so far was no figuring out how to download the speech software, and it has a Siri like program, but some more hands on will tell the tale.
Always something for you money, eh?

Also if you cannot get your phone unlocked, there is the Gevey Ultra SIM interposer. I successfully unlocked someone's phone with it. It's not a true baseband unlock, but it doesn't require a jailbreak either. It may or may not work with the next iOS upgrade, but it's one of those solutions that works until you can get the phone's IMEI whitelisted with Apple. Incestuous relationships between carrier and manufacturer.S

Post 23 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 05-Jul-2012 14:23:55

There will always be a way or method to unlock phones. It is simply good marketing. It won't be public informatiion, but you have to remember, you can't design a product to only work for a limited group unless you really don't want to make money.
Okay I'll be back on topic when I find the next hot deal.

Post 24 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 05-Jul-2012 21:54:09

Okay folks. it is official!
Cricket Comunications is offering the iPhone 4S for 499 and the 4 8 GB for 399.
What makes this a good deal is that the service for unlimited talk, text, and data is costing $55 per month.
If you can stand the up front cost you'll save money in the long hall with unlimited costiing around $130 per month elsewhere.
Off topic. For use that like Android the Galaxy S3 will also soon be available on US Cellular and other companies like Cricket for $599. Same data and calling plan.

Post 25 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Friday, 06-Jul-2012 13:28:31

Also, Cricket will unlock your Verizon phone for you, at least out here, so if you already own a device, take it over there to Cricket.

Okay folks just in case.
Sprint of offering the 4S 16 GB for 149 with a 100 dollar gift card as well. You pay the 149 up front, and this is with a 2 years contract. The gift card is what makes this a great deal.
I'd use mine to pay that first bill that comes in giving you about 75 days grace on billing.
WalMart Mobile offers it for 148.
Yes, I know the new version is just around the corner, but if you don't care this is a great deal and will be able to upgrade to the latest Apple software.

Thought I’d share a couple items that might be of interest.
First, if you need to replace your iPhones battery, and are the brave, you can get it done for $8 by doing it yourself.
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-57565724-233/how-i-replaced-my-iphone-4s-battery-for-$8/
Next, just want to get an iPhone, but don’t want the contract and to choose your service provider, you can get this unlocked 4S for $500. No, that isn’t as cheap as it seems until you notice it is brand new unlocked and a GSM model. That gives you many options.

A T and T wireless has some refurbish 16GB iPhone 5's for $149.
You have to take the 2 year contract, and shipping is free.
Not a wonderful deal, but it saves $50 and your phone will come with a new warrentee.

Post 29 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 01-Feb-2013 8:38:46

This is not a 4 or a 4S, but I think it is still a formidable phone and a good price for someone wanting an iPhone without a contract.
Ebay has several, but this ones a 3GS unlocked factory refurbished for 169.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380563383355
Remember these were originally on AT and T, but can work on many other companies now.
It is GSM so gives a wide range of uses.
Great for T-Mobile. I know several people with them on that service.

Post 30 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 21-Feb-2013 12:27:47

I posted that AT and T had refurbish iPhone 5 for 149. Now I keep seeing it for 100, but when I check the sight it comes in at 149. This is the 16 GB model either black or white.
If interested buy it online with a phone rep.
This would make it 100 less than a new one.

Post 31 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 21-Feb-2013 12:56:52

Also, and I posted this on another board for Anthony.
EBay has a new iPhone 5 unlocked for 539.00.
It states A T and T is the carrier, howver, it is factory unlocked, so you are able to take it anyplace you wish that has a Network it supports. The specs are on the add.

Please forgive the second posting. I have tried to make it different.
The website is on the first post, or just do a search on EBay for unlocked iPhone 5 16 GB and it will turn up.
This one is white if that matters.

Post 32 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 21-Feb-2013 16:23:49

When an iPhone is both unlocked and says that AT&T or anyone else is the carrier, all that means is that the phone's settings are set up for that carrier. This is easily changed via Settings -> General -> Cellular Network and you'll have to set the APN and MMS settings according to your carrier's specifications. That is all that means.
Now locked is a separate issue.
But if you want one of those, Solavei at $49 / month is a great option. Refer a few people to Solavei, and get your service reduced or for free.
I'm loving the unlimited, myself, and have better bars and better 3G than I had with T-Mobile: I have not yet even once been switched over to just Edge like I was with T-Mobile. anyway just stuff to consider for low-cost options.

Post 33 by MDN1988 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Saturday, 02-Mar-2013 13:44:47

Also, Sprint has a refurbished 4S for $50 on their site, and it is the 16 gig model. It is half the price of a new one with a Sprint two-year contract.

Post 34 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2013 9:06:54

I have been saying, and some have even done this, that you can use your iPhone on T-Mobile specially if it is an AT and T phone, and you own it, and have gotten out of the contract, by some method.
Now that T-Mobile is offering unlimited talk plans at $50 per month and no contract I saw this article explaining exactly how you do it.

And it works really well on the T-Mobile network in urban areas, full 3G coverage plus LTE is coming out soon.

Post 36 by Winterfresh (This is who I am, an what I am about. If you don't like it, too damn bad!!!) on Wednesday, 27-Mar-2013 1:36:59

I like this board. It's very helpful, especially considering I'm really trying to get an iPhone because my droid is a mess and I can't break contract and get a new one because that'd be pointless. I just want an iPhone, and don't want to spend an arm and a leg on it. I'm on sprint's network btw, if I didn't already say that already.

Post 37 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Wednesday, 27-Mar-2013 8:10:34

I love the iPhone deals but I've always been scared to get refurbished because obviously they're not new, so I always have this notion that my phone is likely to break more often due to it being refurbished. I've had my iPhone 4 for 2 years and some months now, and while I can technically upgrade to a 5, the 5s is rumored to come out in the later part of the year, so I may possibly just wait.

Post 38 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 27-Mar-2013 17:21:23

I will check on a phone that will work with Sprint and post something if I find it.
If you were not in a contract, or do not mind extending yours, Radioshack cellular has the best price on a contract Sprint iPhone at the minute.
Refurbished phones from Apple are like new and receive exactly the same warrentee if that helps.
T-Moble had a confrence yesterday, and the 4G LTE is due April I believe.
They have slightly lower pricing on the iPhone over regular, but not anything exciting. The iPhone 5 is also slightly different than other companies. One example, it it won't make Wi Fi calls.

Post 39 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 28-Mar-2013 10:40:02

Here is my opinion on Sprint.
Because the network is much like Verizon unlocked phones must be setup for Sprint.
I learned, and I didn’t know, that Verizon’s iPhone 5 can also work on A T and T,T-Mobile, or other GSM networks, but not Sprints. If that glitch hasn’t been fixed that opens up options for buying unlocked 5’s.
Currently, the best pricing I could locate was again with RadioShack wireless, but you’ll need a contract. Otherwise I think I’d buy an unlocked 4S $549 or 4 $449 directly from Apple if I wanted new.
The used market, of course is wide and I found a phone that claimed it was in good condition for $479, but that isn’t difficult.
While looking, I located an unlocked iPhone 5 refurbished for $599 on Amazon. That is the lowest today.
In short, nothing to brag about, because I’ve seen prices much lower.

Post 40 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 28-Mar-2013 13:04:37

I know this is mainly an iPhone topic, but I couldn't be happier that contract-free options like Cricket Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile now, are starting to be more available. Sure, Solavei is also there but they're just on the T-Mobile network.
I still can't get over seeing college kids signing two-year contracts for things like this, no disrespect meant to college kids at all. I was young once, I didn't sign any sort of long-term contract like that at that age. Hell, at that age, you didn't even sign leasing agreements for many apartment complexes, you just rented. My daughter of course just signed a one-year lease.
Anyway, take advantage of whatever you can to get your unlocked iPhone, and take it to the carrier of your choice preferably without a contract, and get you skinny little ass signed up and good to go.

Post 42 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 29-Mar-2013 12:52:10

When T-Mobile starts to offer the iPhone 5 it will cost $579. You can have it unlocked after 60 days providing you are in good standing and pay it off.
Placing 99 dollard down gets you the phone with 24 months of payments of 20 dollars each. A no interest loan.

Post 43 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 05-Apr-2013 10:55:20

I was looking for a deal, and while on the T-Mobile site I noticed you can now pre order your iPhones.
Today the $579 price for the 16 GB and up are the best if you wish to purchase your handset outright, and as I posted, you can do this monthly.
In comparison, Walmart now has Straight Talk, same platform, however, the phone cost $649, so at the regular list price.
You’ll also need a WalMart card to get the monthly payment deal.

T Mobile is taking trade ins of iPhone 4 and 4S as a down payment on your new iPhone 5.
Payments for 24 months depend on the model you choose.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/?AID=11031750&PID=552179
Trade your phone and you can walk out with no money down at all.

Post 47 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 17-Apr-2013 15:20:43

T Mobile wants you!
Now, if you sign up with them they’ll give you a $50 gift card after your service has been active.
So, if you get the 16GB iPhone, and put down the $99, soon you’ll get $50 of that back. So you can look at this 2 ways. Either $50 in your pocket to do with as you wish, or $50 back in your pocket, so your down payment is only $49.
Me, I’d use the $50 on the payoff price bringing my new iPhones total price down to $529.
I have posted some at this price, but nothing you could finance interest free over the 24 months period.
Kind of interesting.

Okay, okay folks.
This is not exactly about a lower cost iPhone, but a way to get one with no contract on a top notch carrier.
Aio, A T and T’s new wireless serviced is just like T Mobile, except for offering 4G.
That is not a big deal, due to T Mobiles not working in many places anyway.
You can do exactly the same with Aio as you can with T, buy your iPhone up front, $649, or pay installments on it.
Yep, T’s is cheaper at $579, but keep reading.
The other different is Aio doesn’t require a credit check, so all you need be is 18 and have some cash in hand to get started.
I predicted the large companies would soon have to bend, and it looks as if it has started.
A T and T is smart by calling it something else, but it is still A T and T.

Realitive. You want it, you pay. Not expensive at all
Take a contract, and you could have one for as little as 99 dollars?
Great sales pitch. Lol.

Virgin Mobile offers the no-contract Apple iPhone 4S 16GB Prepaid Smartphone for Virgin Mobile in Black , model no. MD865LL/A, for $382.49 with free shipping. Virgin Mobile's prepaid plans start at $35 per month. The basic plan includes unlimited texting and data and 300 voice minutes, while upgraded plans feature more minutes.
Of note, Virgin Mobile also offers a no-contract Apple iPhone 4 8GB Prepaid Smartphone for Virgin Mobile in Black, model no. MD873LL/A, for $297.49 with free shipping.
Because Apple is soon to release the next model and usually only supports 3 levels for OS updates, I’d not get the 4, but it is a good deal.
The next deal I’ve seen many times and can be had on Amazon as well, but I’ll list it.
Worldwide Distributors via eBay offer the Unlocked Apple iPhone 5 16GB Smartphone for GSM Networks
This one is $625, but this, while a good deal, is not as good as I’ve posted.
$650 is the list price.

Starting now, Best Buy will offer $50 off the price of iPhones.
These are contract phones, so you’ve seen these prices before, but if you shop Best Buy or are in the market, here’s a price brake.
Promotion ends June 29th.
Carriers are Verizon Wireless, AT&T, or Sprint

Post 54 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 08-Jul-2013 11:16:54

Cricket is offering the 16 GB iPhone 5 at 399. You pay $649, and receive a $250 mail in rebate, so that is pretty good for a no contract service.
Plans start at $50 per month, including unlimited talk, texting, and 1GB full speed data. The data is actually unlimited, however, after you exceed the 1GB amount, it slows down.
Cricket also allows the use of the phones hotspot, a plus, because this is not always available in the plan.
The Cricket service for the iPhone 5 is only 3g, if that is a problem.
In my opinion, it isn’t, due to many top services being 3G depending on where you live.
I use Verizon with my 4S, and when using the hotspot, or streaming video/music with the phone, 3G works just fine.
I did an example cart, and my total out the door was $725. Expensive to start, but you’ll have the $250 coming back soon.
I also chose the $50 per month plan, due to it having free 411, a plus for a blind person I believe.

Here is an interesting deal.
This comes from CNET.
My thoughts on it, are it is a great deal if you are ready to upgrade. However, due to the next iPhone maybe being released in September, you might want to pass this deal.
If Apple actually releases a low cost plastic model, they might drop the 4S from future OS upgrades after OS 7, because traditionally, Apple only keeps 3 models in the line.
You’d have the low cost, 5 and 5S.
Being stuck with a 5 for the next 2 years would be okay, because you’ll be receiving updates, and you’d really save some cash.
It’s a tossup.
Read the story below.

Best Buy has launched its latest trade-in deal for iPhone 4s or 4 owners looking to score an iPhone 5.
People who trade in a working iPhone 4S will receive a $200 gift card, while those who trade in an iPhone 4 will snag a $100 gift card. Those gift cards can then be applied toward the purchase of an iPhone 5 with the usual two-year agreement.
Available only in Best Buy stores, the promo started on Thursday, August 15, and runs until Sunday, August 18. As always, certain conditions apply. The offer is good for Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and Sprint customers, but not for those on T-Mobile. No-contract iPhones are also off the list. And customers have to be eligible for a new two-year contract.

Hmm.. a plastic Iphone! um.. someone say no thank you!. Hmm.. a little copying of samsung going on here!!!. I will keep my Iphone5 of a plastic one. I have come to except plastic from sasmung because it feels good in the hands and the GS3 has a smooth feel to it. Apple, products plastic! its going to take some time swollowing that idea.

Post 57 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 16-Aug-2013 17:35:12

I can't wait until the new Iphone comes out next month. My hubby has finally decided to drop the droid, mainly because it won't charge, and he wants to switch to the Iphone. Yay! I'm eligible for an upgrade but he isn't. I've been with AT&T for 10 years though so hopefully customer loyalty will work in our favor. I'm not holding my breath though. Also, the kidlet is likely getting a phone of his own this year and we want it to be an iphone because I want to be able to spy with my mommy ears if need be. lol

Post 58 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 17-Aug-2013 10:38:14

Than for the kid the what is prospected to be called the 5C would maybe be a good choice.
The reason for the plastic design is so it can be sold cheaper, and Apple grab some of the market share in countries with less ability to purchase their products.
The 5C will also lack some features I have read, but we'll all see on September 10th when Apple unvailes its new products.
The new 5S might have 128 GB of storage just like the new iPod, so interesting.
A new color is said to be ggold for the most expensive model.

Post 59 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 17-Aug-2013 14:33:42

Oh good idea on the 5C. I'm assuming it's the plastic one? I'm cool with that for him, I think. lol
Hell, the hubs might even like that one. He says he really doesn't care. He's a little freaked by the prospect but I told him he'll get through it. lol. I don't have allot of experience with Siri but I'm hoping that feature might be helpful to him. I want the 5S cuz I'm the electronic geek in the family.

Post 60 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 17-Aug-2013 17:10:40

The 5 C may not have siri, because it will be cheaper, so lacking some features.
The plastic model is also more abuse friendly, so for a young person, might just be the thing.
It may come in a variety of colors, like the iPod, so another selling point for a young person.
On this board I am always posting deals, so if the 5C actually comes available, and is actually cheaper, I'll post it.

Post 61 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 12-Sep-2013 12:24:06

Walmart is at it again.
They are offering the iPhone 5C for $79 and the 5S 16 GB for $189.
You can trade in your older phones, for cash as well on your new phone. These don’t have to be iPhones.
The 5 is also discounted.
I talked about the 5C being cheaper, and it will be. Also you can pre order yours, even with Walmart this morning coming up at 12.AM PT. Not the 5S however.
After watching the conference, I believe the 5C will be a sturdy device, due to it having a steel frame under poly carbonate shell, and being molded from one piece.
Anyone that uses blenders, and poly carbonate products in the kitchen, understand what I mean. You can drop these things, and they bounce. Really touch.
Scratching might be an issue, and I think dropping electronics has to disturbed the components, but I’ve seen them dropped, other devices, and still work, so.
Maybe a great phone for your teen, and the fumble challenged loved ones.
Read the article.

It's a phone not a fish, so don't drop it in water. lol

No for water you'll need Sony's new phone.
Also, the screen is still glass, so you could get one of these toucher screen protectors.
Thought I’d add this bit.
I misspelled polycarbonate, so there you go.

Can yall tell if the 5C will have Siri? Looking at Apple.com, it appears that it will. I could be wrong though.
My upgrade will be free though so if I have to get the kid the 5s, we'll be ok. Hubs has decided to see if his phone can limp across the finish line when he's eligible for an upgrade next summer. We shall see. lol
I'm really hoping that the 5C has Siri but if not, the kid will enjoy it on the 5s and he'll just have to understand it's part of his Christmas.

Post 68 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 13-Sep-2013 13:16:00

More food for your upgrading wishes. Seems this will go on for a while.
My opinion why, is due to Japan, and China opening up, and some other countries.
These phones get lost, stolen, and such as a high rate, so the market for used models will most likely be larger.
I just copied the article with credits.

For us that are almost finished with contracts, the money could go to paying you out. Others with unlocked models might choose companies like T Mobile, A T and T or Verizon, offering trade up programs at 6 months.
You pay full price of course, but this cash will make that time shorter.
Lance Whitney
(Credit: CNET)
iPhone 5 owners looking to trade in their phone can get up to $200 from Target, or more if they hop online.
The retailer announced today that the current trade-in promotion applies to older iPhones as well. An iPhone 4S trade-in could net you $125, while the iPhone 4 could score you $75. The actual trade-in price naturally depends on the phone's condition and storage capacity.
The money comes as store credit that consumers can use to buy one of the new iPhone models or almost any product at a local Target store or at Target's Web site. Customers who own a Target REDcard can also trim 5 percent off the cost of a new iPhone or other smartphone.
However, traders can score better deals either by going online or going elsewhere.
Target works with NextWorth on its trade-in program. Directly using NextWorth or Target's online electronics trade-in program typically earns you more money. For example, a 16GB iPhone 5 in working condition is worth at least $300 via NextWorth.
Walmart is also offering up to $300 in the form of store credit for a working iPhone 5.
As always, people who want to trade in or sell their iPhone or other smartphone should shop around.
Like other retailers, Target today launched preorders of the iPhone 5C and will sell the 5C and 5S both online and offline starting September 20.

Hmm, perhaps I oughta check into Sprint. Wonder if they have unlimited data. I'm one of those silly suckers paying $30 per month but my data is unlimited.

Post 72 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 16-Sep-2013 23:50:04

Sprints data is unlimited, but there is a catch.
You can use all the cellular data you want, but Sprint phones do not have the hot spot feature that allows you to use that data for say your tablet, or laptop, that is an extra fee.
Sprint also has extra fees, so the service is a bit higher, but if you are a person that uses lots of cellular data, radio, GPS, apps that consume data, siri, that sort of thing, Sprint is a good way to go.
I have a friend that uses siri to run her phone. Texting, playing music, making calls, that sort of thing, so Sprint is a good service for her.

Here’s a deal for someone that doesn’t want a contract, and just wants a great accessible phone.
If you take this deal, I’d advise contacting Apple before you upgraded it to the latest OS, providing Virgin Mobile has not done so for you.
Asking the reps at Best Buy can get that question answered, as to what version of IOS this phone runs

Virgin Mobile offers the Apple iPhone 5 16GB Prepaid Smartphone in White or Black for $449.99 with free shipping.
I am wondering how low the price will get on this model, but at this time, this seems good.
It was 10 bucks less before, but I missed seeing that one in August.

This isn’t on a phone, but service.
Straight Talk will set you up for 45 per month if you have an iPhone that is not under contract.
The Sim cards are 6.99.
You pop the card in, say your iPhone 4S, do a few setup things and you’ve got unlimited talk, text, and data.
I can’t say how good the service is, but for 7 bucks it isn’t that expensive to try it out
Here’s the page.

Post 79 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 25-Oct-2013 15:05:08

I’m going to go out on a limb with this one, but I think I’m safe.
Cricket wireless now has the 5S and 5C $599 and $499 respectively.
Here is the different.
First, the prices are $50 lower than the asking price.
Next, you don’t have to pay it all at once anymore, but can pay it monthly.
You must qualify for the credit to get the phone, but you are not locked in to a contract of service.
Now, all companies are offering this same deal, however, Verizon, for example, won’t allow you to pay the phone off early unless you are trading it.
This deal allows you to pay for your phone with no interest for the promotional period. In this case 24 months and you can pay as fast as you like.
The reason I’m saying I’m going out on a limb, is that if Cricket can offer a payment plan, I’ll bet other no contract services do so as well.
T Mobile has such a plan, but you’ve got to qualify not only for the phone, but the service if you are paying per month.
I’d guess Cricket sees it this way. If you buy a phone, they’ll give you service, because they’d give you service anyway.
This is not only for the iPhone, but I’m only doing them here.
Here is an example of what the $50 per month plan gives you. I think it’s really good. On the iPhone you’ll get 3G service, but 3G is plenty good.

$50 SMART PLAN
$50 /month
View plan details
Add to cart

unlimited voice:
• talk
• US long distance
• caller ID
• call waiting
• 3-way calling
• call forwarding
unlimited messaging:
• text
• picture
• video
• international text
• international picture
• international video
unlimited data:
• 2.5G

Now they slow you down after you reach that 2.5GB, but who cares?
Does this rock, or not?

The phones here will be regular price, but can be purchased on time, so if you qualify, you don’t have to pay all at once.
I suspect other providers to match this after a while.

A quick deal.
In my experience you’ll be seeing more of these, so if you are wishing for the iPhone 6, you might wait.
Don’t care, go, go, go!
Also do to laziness, I missed Best Buy’s deal like this last week.
At Target retail stores and with a 2-year contract, trade in your Apple iPhone 4, 4s, or 5, 5s, or 5c for the purchase of an Apple iPhone 5s or iPhone 5C to receive up to a $300 Target Gift Card. That beats Best Buy's offer of up to $200 in trade-in credit from six days ago. Your used item must be in working condition and without any broken parts or cracks to be eligible for this offer. Some exclusions apply.

• The iPhone 4S
• The iPhone 5
• The iPhone 5C
• The iPhone 5S
• So there you go. Happy shopping.
• I believe will see the iPhone 6, in whatever flavors in September, but for us blind users, I haven’t noted any updates that are going to be better then what is available now.
• Sure, the new devices will be updated, but not in our use department.
• Our improvements will come in the iOS8 update.
• Now, that is just my opinion.

Yes, pricing is dropping again on the iPhone newest models. That always indicates we’ve got a new one coming, but if you don’t care about that, and maybe for the upgrade you don’t, in my opinion.

Okay. This is an iPhone 5. It is the equal to the iPhone 5C just in the usual colors, white or black, and doesn’t have the plastic body.
It will be compatible for the new iOS 8 update as well.

YouBuyRite via eBay offers the Unlocked Apple iPhone 5 16GB 4G LTE Smartphone in White, model no. MD294LL/A, or Black, model no. MD293LL/A, for $489.99
This is a pretty good buy if you like your devices unlocked.

I’ve seen this type of deal before.
AT&T offers both the refurbished iPhone 5 and 5S $50 and $100 with a two year activation.
Activation is $40, and the phones come with a 90 day AT&T warrantee.
Could get you in for low many.
Remember however, that the iPhone C’s are often times offered at the same prices 16 and 32GB models new, so I’d check unless I wanted AT&T and the iPhone 5S.

Post 100 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 02-Jul-2014 11:07:12

Now AT&T has dropped the price on the iPhone 5 refurbished to free.
This still requires the 2 year contract.
I am betting as September draws nearer I'll have some better deals on all of them.

You keep doing this Wayne, and you're going to have helped out a ton of people. Especially with the larger iPhones now like the 5 and 5C, this is all the computer some people have.
I know my iPad Mini and my 4S are all the computer I ever use when I'm not at work these days.
Probably this winter I'll update my phone to something with the I7 processor.
The newer iPhones do better battery anyway.

Post 102 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 02-Jul-2014 15:09:42

My aim is to save folks some money.
It is my opinion that spending money to get the same thing you can have for less doesn't make sense. Why?
I also think the iPhone can, and does, make life better for the blind.

Post 103 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 02-Jul-2014 17:01:32

I think it's great.

Post 104 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 03-Jul-2014 11:56:55

Well, thank you. I see I didn't add that. I was testing a new Laptop I setup for someone, and that keyboard isn't mine. Lol
As the iPhone 6 release come closer, I still don't see a compelling reason for a blind person to upgrade, or when buying a new phone, to get this model.
From the 4S up you will have access to iOS 8, as stated.
For low vision persons, the larger screens will be the feature you'll want for sure.
If you purchase a 5S down, you'll have years of updates, because these phones are similar in technology.
But, I'll post if I'm wrong too.

Post 105 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 03-Jul-2014 12:23:43

I definitely want a 5S or something. Better battery, upgraded processor.
And, I know this sounds like a small issue, but people say Alex is fantastic for reading with on the Mac, and the 4S won't support Alex. But the 5 will, it's got an I7.
My 4S and my iPad Mini both have an I5.
So I might wait for the 6 to come out, then buy a 5S for cheaper. Depends what T-Mo is doing at the time, as we're happy using that carrier and not interested in switching.

chubbiestech (108750 on Ebay is offering the unlocked GSM T-Mobile or AT&T 16GB iPhone 4S for 300, with free shipping.
This one is white in color, if that matters.

Post 107 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 09-Jul-2014 11:21:47

Here’s an interesting deal.
On EBay it looks like Apple has released some unlocked recertified iPhone 5 models.
This means these are Apple tested, like new phones, and you get the same warrantee as new.
For unlocked the price is good.
16GB starts at 450,32GB 480, and 64GB 500.
Okay, that’s not cheap, but for an unlocked iPhone that is new, it is. No contract remember.
Here’s the article.

YouBuyRite via eBay offers the refurbished Apple iPhone 4 8GB for Verizon Wireless in Black, model no. MC676LL/A, or White, model no. MD440LL/A, for $84.88 with free shipping.
This ones a no contract phone. Verizon offers this same phone new free if you take a 2 year contract as well.

Post 109 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 04-Aug-2014 16:11:10

I am going to take my last post back.
My reasons are because for some reason, this phone will not be compatible with the upcoming iOS8 release.
If that doesn't bother you, and it may not, if all you want is an accessible phone for cheap that is also not contracted, it be okay.
It is running the current iOS now however, so will still work fine even after the upgrade, you just won't be able to use newer apps and such.

If you own your GSM abled iPhone, you might try GIV Mobile.
So, you pick up one of the unlock 5S on Ebay Apple has released, and you get this plan.
They are offering a $29 per month unlimited plan.
Here’s the article, so you can decide for yourself.
I know nothing about this company, so can’t say how good the service is or if it works in your city.
I suspect it will due to how it is setup.

As the time approaches for the iPhone 6 deals are getting better.
This one as you’ll note, only has a 90 day Apple warranty. I would think that anything that would go wrong will in the 90 days. I might buy extended coverage via Apple, if this worries you.
Qualitycellz via eBay offers the factory-refurbished Unlocked Apple iPhone 5S 64GB Smartphone for GSM Networks in Black or Silver for $629.99 with free shipping. A 90-day Apple warranty applies.

Okay, I’m going to just paste this complete. This is a wonderful idea, but I didn’t say it first, so I’ll give the credit to the Cheap Skate, and post his complete Thursday post website.
Here you go.

3. The iPhone 5c gets a bad rap, but I like the colorful design and durable casing. Granted, the iPhone 6 is just around the corner, but if you're not hung up on screen size, here's a chance to score a pretty sweet deal: Walmart has the iPhone 5c for just 97 cents when you sign up for for a two-year contract with AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or US Cellular. My advice: Grab the AT&T version, take it to T-Mobile, let them buy out your contract, and then enjoy contract-free service. (Then, if you really want to get crazy, ditch T-Mo for an even cheaper MVNO.) That should work, right?

Yes, Tuesday is the big day for the iPhone 6, but if you are in the money saving mode, and want your phone unlocked too
Factory Certified via eBay offers the factory-refurbished Unlocked Apple iPhone 5 64GB GSM Smartphone in Black ( model no. MD662X/A, for $430 with free shipping.
Also available is the factory-refurbished Unlocked Apple iPhone 5 16GB GSM Smartphone in Black, model no. MD293LL/A, or White, model no. MD294LL/A, for $410 with free shipping.
Each is covered by a 1-year Apple warranty.
If I didn’t have to have it white, I’d pay 20 bucks more. 64GB, and you can carry all your music and such in your pocket.
Remember, these will be exactly like the 5C, just with the better casing, not the plastic.

Post 114 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 09-Sep-2014 16:25:51

I promised to post after the Apple event if the new iPhone 6 was released.
I stand on my opinion.
It is a beautiful device, but it has nothing new that will make a totally blind persons using it better than the current 5 models.
For the person that wishes to save some cash, but wants a new, or newer modeled phone, the 5 model line is a great value, and has been as you can see from previous post.
These phones are going to be upgradable to iOS8, and that is where the features for the blind are found.
Remember, this is only my opinion.
I base it on the features of the new model, not the OS itself.

Post 115 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 10-Sep-2014 13:11:13

Lots of incentive to get your iPhone 6 and 6+ models.
Verizon is offering you a free 16GB 6 if you’ll trade your 4 4S 5C or 5S and take a new 2 year contract.
Sprint offers a new 50 dollar plan for the new phones with unlimited cellular data.
Target is offering trade ins as well.
Target's iPhone trade-in deals include the following:
• Up to $200 for the iPhone 5s
• Up to $100 for the iPhone 5 or 5c
• Up to $75 for the iPhone 4s
• Up to $50 for the iPhone 4
• All the carriers AT&T Sprint, Verizon, and T Mobile have deals as well.
• This went on last year, but not as hard.
• This year you can pre order your new iPhone on Friday the 12th, so if contracts or pay monthly plans don’t bother you, you could basically trade up for free if you’re willing to hang in for 2 years.
• Now, that might not be a big deal, because next year, maybe they’ll be offering something just as tasty.
• It is predicted that other retailers will be following this trend. They’ve kind of got to.
• So depending on where your money is at, meaning, who you shop with, or service, you can do well.
• So, it appears right now the iPhone 6 has your name on it.
The 5 models, as of now, are still the best value for people that don't wish to be in a contract, or even if you are going to do a pay by the month plan, because as I've stated, the 6, to me doesn't have much to give use incentive to spend more money for it.
We discussed this last on the public boards, and many users like the fact the 6+ has better battery life, and are willing to pay for that.

Any Idea as to what this new Sprint plan's pricing would be after taxes and all
their extra fees they love to include? I'd love to sign up for that, especially
sense it's considerably less than their older "simply everything plan," that
everybody pays roughly $100 for, and I'm on a really tight budget, so every bit I
can save, the better.

Post 117 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 10-Sep-2014 22:11:34

It is suppose to be 50. Taxes are marginal, so maybe 8 more dollars?
Call Sprint on Friday, because the phones are available for pre order and ask.
They are offering special price plans for them for some reason.
I do wonder if Apple decided to make it easy for providers to do this on contract bases, or due to carriers dropping prices, and such, they've got to attract and keep customers.
It is even better then last year.

Post 118 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Sep-2014 12:28:17

Some other options.
Walmart will let the iPhone 6 16GB go for $179 per order.
When you pick up your device, you’ll also receive a $15 Walmart E gift card.
The 6+ 16GB will sale for $279.
This deal works for you that don’t have a trade in, and will take a 2 year contract with AT&T Sprint, Verizon.
Pre orders start at 12 EST.
Depending on the carrier you like, the best deals seem to be for those that already own iPhones, and want to trade.
Some carriers seem to be waving contracts for new if you’ll trade up.
I’ve not seen an add for Best Buy yet, but maybe later today.
This is really heating up, so if you plan to pre order your device, and are in the place to switch, I would shop them all that were best for my area.
One other muse, and this is not a for sure, just a muse.
Due to the size of the screens being larger, I'm thinking some of the new apps will require more space. iOS8, already does.
If you are someone that keeps lots of content and apps, you might think about going up a model.
Example, if you use 16GB and are over half down, maybe you'll want to pay the extra for the 64GB model.
If you are going to have to stay with your contrat for 2 years, that space might be needed.
I'm what I'd call an average user. I keep aboutg 250 songs, text, bank, Skype, have another music services other then iTunes, and applications like a money reader.
I brows some, and pay for things so I have PayPal, and Starbucks, stuff like this.
My current 16GB device including the iOS and all I use still has something like 8GB left.
But if I add books, and such, I'd need 64GB the next model up.
Good shopping for you that are getting the 6. I'd love to know what deals you used.

Post 119 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Sep-2014 15:54:35

This might be interesting to you that don’t live in the US, or that are interested in unlocked iPhones.
EBay has several sellers that are offering bidding on the 6 and 6+ models.
Right now, some pricing, for example, the 6+ 128GB bidding is started at 500. That one only has 8 bids on it, and is only up to 570
Sellers are not taking returns, but EBay claims it will protect you with its buyer protection.
PayPal credit, if you qualify is offering 12 months no payments or interest.
I have no idea how several sellers can start the bidding so low, but take a look for yourself.
Many are GSM models, but there are CDMA models as well.
These are new,of course, so that means Apple supports them for 1 year.

Post 120 by Juliet (move over school!) on Thursday, 11-Sep-2014 21:17:10

I've asked them before about the prices of their plans after taxes, and they
claim they can't tell me that, for some off the wall reason. I called last night to
find out about this $50 plan that's coming out, and the rep I talked to about it
just told me that Apple wasn't releasing any info about it, and told me next to
nothing about it, so when Sprint sent me their usual survey messages, I didn't
even take the time to respond to them.
I love Sprint's service as a service in general, but find their customer service
to be slack as ever at times.

Post 121 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Sep-2014 22:07:16

Odd.
Here is what I've read.
If you purchase an iPhone 6 Sprint will offer a unlimited plan for 50 per month. That includes cellular data, talk, and text.
You can do a contract, or do what they call the iPhone for life plan. You pay $20 per month for 24 months, and at the end of that time, you can upgrade, or in about a year with some cost.
The price for the 16GB 6 will be about 199 on the contract, or at that 20 per month you'll pay 480 for one.
Remember, Sprint charges extra to use the Hot Spot feature, but if all you do is stream music or whatever with the phone, you'll not care.
Example, if you like listening to Pandora, or iTunes radio, Face Booking, Twitter, or Zoning, all that be under your unlimited data.
I hope that helps.
They've got pricing on the 5 models as well, and if you are stricking out alone, you might shop other carriers.
Example, if you trade your current iPhone and take 2 years, Verizon will give you the 16GB model free, so if you want say the 64GB model, you pay the extra.
The trade is 206 dollars. Price plans depend, but there aren't any that offer unlimited data.
I hope that helps you.

Post 122 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Sep-2014 22:15:32

I forgot to add.
I know you talked about getting on your own plan, but most times the family plans are less expensive for all.
These plans can be configured to give everyone plenty of data, so sometimes it makes sense to sign on with someone over the single plans.
On Sprint, this seems to be a bit muddy right now, so if you are sticking with them, that single plan will be better.

DigJungle via eBay offers the Unlocked Apple iPhone 5S 16GB Smartphone for GSM Networks in Silver or Space Gray for $499.99 with free shipping.
This is a bran new factory sealed unit.
The 5S is a great device and can run the latest iOS easy.

Post 124 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 10-Oct-2014 11:24:28

Boost Mobile will start offering the 6 and 6+ models October 17th.
This is a pay as you go service, so you pay full price for the phones, but they are 100 less then list price.
Example.
• iPhone 6 16GB: $549.99
• iPhone 6 64GB: $649.99
• iPhone 6 128GB: $749.99
• iPhone 6 Plus 16GB: $649.99
• iPhone 6 Plus 64GB: $749.99
• iPhone 6 Plus 128GB: $849.99

UntilNovember, they’ll take $5 off your monthly plan.
I have no idea how the service is, and that depend on your area, but her’s the new phones for a bit less if you don’t like contracts.
